A handwoven Moroccan Berber Boucherouite area rug featuring a rare grid pattern. This cotton rag rug features color strips that weave together a mix of deep to light turquoise, tan, yellow, orange, navy, sky blue, red, and grey.  The rug is finished with overcast edges and fringe at one end.  Merchant tag to the verso from “Blue Ocean Traders”.  The sheer honesty of these artistic creations, their bright colours and abstract movement are of great interest to collectors.  A Boucherouite carpet is a woven work of art.

What makes them special, is how there is no preconceived pattern or vision, as the Berbere women weave with their fingers in a random way.  It is very much a tapestry where each piece is a unique expression of the weaver in the moment.

If you are unfamiliar with this type of rug, know that they are hand crafted by women in the Berber tribes in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco.  This piece is one of a kind and can be used as a rug or wall hanging.

If using as a rug, I suggest placing a non-stick pad underneath to preserve the weave and keep it from sliding.
